Farewell to Toastmaster Adrian Melia – Goodbye my friend goodbye

Farewell to Toastmaster Adrian Melia

Today we bid farewell to our great friend Adrian Melia who died following a long battle with cancer. Our Toastmasters family is diminished greatly with his passing.  We are the better from having known him as our friend and as a wonderful inspiration to all.

Adrian was like a little boy standing on the shores of a lake skimming stones on the surface of the water. He took delight in the ripples he could make and the number of times he could make each stone bounce. You can be sure he did not pick flat stones. You can be sure that he rubbed his hands with glee as he made the ripples ever wider.

It was great that you lived your life on your own terms. You lived your life in full. You refused to back down in the face of adversity. You packed more life into a minute than most people could fit into a day. You set a new bar for life that we should all aspire to. We salute you.

Our twice monthly meeting will never be quite the same again. The absence of your quick wit and your sharp sense of perspective will leave a void which will take quite a time to fill. It is a true tribute to you that we will struggle to reach your heady heights once again.

Your Toastmaster family will miss you dearly my friend.

Adrian Melia – “It’s not about me” – President Balraj Arunasalam Award

Exciting evening at Kildare Toastmasters on 24th Oct when Adrian experienced a “this is your life moment!”

Congratulations to Adrian Melia who received a personal video message from President Balraj Arunasalam in awarding him with an Outstanding Contribution Award 2017 to Adrian for his life of service to Toastmasters International. Birthday boy Adrian was left momentarily speechless but recovered his mojo shortly after delivering an emotional thank you to all concerned.

Laughter is the best medicine!

Great humour and great performances at the Division D final of Toastmasters at The Clonmel Park Hotel yesterday 22nd Oct. Lorraine Howard with a humorous speech entitled “Arachnophobia” performed a tour de force but was unfortunately not placed with the winners on the day. Maureen McCowen delivered a sterling performance with a topic entitled “If you could drop everything to pursue your dreams what would that be?” in the Table Topics competition but was once again unsuccessful in a selection of 8 competitors.

Dual member David Clinton representing his second club Athy Toastmasters was crowned winner of the Table Topics contest and advances to the Final of the last District 71 Ireland & UK combined regional conference at The Steel City Conference on 5th Nov. Congratulations to all our wonderful competitors and for all those who were able to attend to support on the day. Best wishes to Adrian Melia who received an award on the day for coaching and mentoring the Athy Toastmasters club but who due to illness was unable to attend. Adrian was as they say, very much there “in spirit”.
