Kildare Toastmasters welcome Mohammed Murad DTM

An historic day for Kildare Toastmasters when Immediate Past International President Mohammad Murad and District 71 Director Kevin JH Lee were honoured guests among so many at our recent club meeting. Mick Conlon’s level 10 speech Relight my Fire got the club over the line for President’s Distinguished status for the first time ever. Club founding member Eilis McCormack was presented with her Advanced Communicator Gold and Mary Reynolds was presented with a Triple Crown.  As general evaluator,Mohammed complimented much of the work our club has done and gave us some really useful ideas to include in our meetings going forward. Thank you Mohammed for your very valuable evaluation!
A hugely successful night in the club’s history.

Kildare Toastmasters win at Div D Finals

April 17th, 2016- What a great day for Kildare Toastmasters with James and Maureen taking big prizes at the Division D International Speech and Speech Evaluation contest at the Horse & Jockey Hotel, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
With a simply superb evaluation James Dunny was the easy winner in the evaluation contest while club president Maureen McCowen gave a remarkable performance with her speech “Feel the Fear” which came second.
On a truly remarkable day for the club, James as at least equalled Eilis in getting to district final which will be held in Limerick on Sunday 15th May. Lets all hope he goes one better and wins it.

Kildare Toastmasters win double at Area Finals

March 30th, 2016 – Superb night for the club at the Area finals of the International Speech and Evaluation competition with club president Maureen McCowen and James Dunny taking the respective honours. Club VPM and Area Director Adrian Melia was non voting chief judge and Mary Reynolds and Anthony Casey were our club judges. We were also supported by Mary Caulfield, Eimear O Rourke and Paul McCowen.
Maureen’s performance was powerful and poignant and it was true courage to compete at all as she was sick all week. So much so that first stand by Anthony was already practising his speech.
James’ evaluation of Mullingar Toastmasters president Brian McLoughlin’s Send in the Clown test speech was amazing, detailed and thought provoking. Brian later said in the bar afterwards that he learned more for making his speech better from James’ evaluation.
Huge thanks to Naas Toastmasters for a great job at hosting and congratulations to Maynooth club president Jane Mooney on being elected to take over from Adrian as Area Director on 30th June.
Maureen and James now go on to represent the Area in the Division finals in Tipperary on Sunday 17th April.
Well done folks and best of luck in next round

Public Speaking is Real Life

Know and your audience! Know your room! Whether it is a speech made in the workplace, or at a wedding or any social event, it is important to make sure your voice carries throughout the room. Where better to learn and practice such great skills only in Kildare toastmasters, among friendly and supportive colleagues. Public speaking is for real life, and in our club you can practice this to get it right for whatever the occasion.

Mentoring the Mentors

Our favourite club matriarch Eilis McCormack continued the fine pattern of Kildare club members helping other clubs with an excellent workshop on “Mentoring the Mentors” last Monday at Maynooth Toastmasters club. The benefits of good mentoring are many. It is a great way to share expertise and obtain fresh perspectives. It is a valuable teambuilding tool and allows new members to ease their way into the Competent Communicator program. Above all, it invests in the future of Toastmasters!
