It’s great to be back at Kildare Toastmasters. Our first meeting on Tue 9th Jan brought us into 2018 with a bang. What a night! Great speeches, great topics, great role participation by first timers and new members. Well done all!
We had three speeches from experienced Toastmasters Lorraine Howard with her CC7 “Mad as a Hatter” with some great insights into old and commonly used phrases such as the title of the speech first off followed by “skeletons in the closet” and also “freeze the brass balls off a monkey”, David Clinton with “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t” from the advanced storytelling manual, a tale of truth, lies, sub plots, conflict and a moral and club President Mary Caulfield with a speech on accepting an award. Great entertainment for all.
After the break first timer Derek Madigan assumed the role of Topics Master and introduced several interesting, funny and entertaining topics for everyone to try their hand at impromptu speaking. We were very pleased to see a number of our new members participating which is a big step towards meeting the first challenge in public speaking.
Special contribution award on the night was presented to Derkd for his tour de force in Topics and Shaun Durkin as General Evaluator provided words of wisdom for our Evaluators and members alike. Many thanks Shaun for joining us on the night and for your valuable contribution. Looking forward to our next meeting our “open night” showcase for members new and old on 23rd Jan at 7.45pm.
That’s right. “We want you”! See you next time!
